Women's Soccer Secures 3-1 NEWMAC Win Over Emerson

Springfield, Mass. – October 25, 2025 – The Springfield College women's soccer team earned a 3-1 win over Emerson College in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) showdown on Saturday evening on Brock-Affleck Field.

Springfield, now winners of three straight, improved to 7-8 overall and to 6-3 in NEWMAC play closing the gap on the top three teams in the conference standings with two games to go. Emerson dropped to 8-4-4, 6-1-2 and took its first conference loss of the 2025 season.

Katie McFerran (Selkirk, N.Y.)Mu Kue (Hartford, Conn.) and Meredith Healy (Niantic, Conn.) tallied goals for the Pride tonight, while Emerson's tally came from Presley King. Kue's goal was her second of the year, while Healy notched her team-leading seventh goal of the season.

McFerran gave Springfield a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute when she finished a pass from Molly Baxter (Pleasantville, N.Y.) burying the ball into the upper right corner of the net. For McFerran tonight's goal marked her fourth of the season, while Baxter's assist was her first of the campaign.

Emerson knotted the score at one in the 76th minute as King finished a pass from Tatum Cohen, who sent the ball into the box off a corner kick. It was not 20 seconds later that Springfield brought the ball down the field when Kue took a one touch pass from Summer Chong (Singapore) and ripped it off the crossbar and past the goal line for the 2-1 lead.

The visiting Lions had a pair of chances to even the score at two as both Kelsea Laughrey and King roped shots off the crossbar, but never found the back of the net. With just four seconds to play, Healy put the game away with an insurance goal after going 1 on 1 with the keeper to finalize the 3-1 NEWMAC win.

Mairead Marsden (Amsterdam, N.Y.) earned the victory in net for Springfield with three saves, while Hailey Forman made four stops for Emerson. Both teams registered 15 shots over the course of the game with Emerson holding a 12-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Springfield will travel to Mount Holyoke for a NEWMAC match on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
