Women's Volleyball Takes Down Wheaton in Straight Sets

Springfield, Mass. – October 7, 2025 – The Springfield College women's volleyball team defeated Wheaton College in straight sets by scores of 25-17, 28-26, 25-17 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Tuesday evening in Blake Arena.

Springfield, now winners of 13 consecutive matches, improved to 16-2 overall and to 5-0 in NEWMAC play, while Wheaton dropped to 6-11, 0-5.

Jodi Saelua (Mililani, Hawaii) powered the Pride with 11 kills on 18 swings as she hit .556 to go along with three blocks. Emily Keaveney (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) chipped in with seven kills and ten digs, Alexa Bonato (Orange, Conn.) added six kills, while Ahunna James (Plainville, Mass.) And Aubrey Hughes (Liberty Hill, Texas) both notched five kills apiece. As a team, Springfield evenly spread out 12 service aces, while Tori Colosimo (Fairport, N.Y.) dished out 32 assists for the Pride tonight and Olivia Nealy (Athens, Ga.) registered a team-best 13 digs.

Springfield hit a match-best .414 (13-1-29) in the opening stanza and led 9-8 before the Pride ripped off seven of the next eight points to extend the advantage to 16-9. The run was piloted by kills from Keaveney and James with James and Hughes teaming up at the net for a block. Springfield eventually led by as many as nine following a swing by Keaveney before Hughes terminated the stet, 25-17.

In a much closer middle set, Springfield had set point on four different occasions with Wheaton fending it off each time until the score was even at 26. A service error by the Lyons paired with a kill from Keaveney secured the second, 28-26.

Springfield bounced back in the third with a kill by Hughes igniting a string of seven straight points as the Pride led 10-2 early on. Wheaton clawed back and cut its deficit to as few as four at 15-11, but a pair of errors paired with an ace by Keaveney, a kill from Hughes and a block by Saelua and James made it 20-13. After trading points and a huge swing on the left side by Bonato two straight Wheaton errors gave Springfield the third 25-17 and the sweep.

Springfield will step out of conference play to take on Amherst College on Thursday at 7:00 pm.
