Springfield, Mass. – October 9, 2025 – The Springfield College men's tennis team picked up its second victory of the fall season as the Pride blanked Western New England, 7-0, on Thursday afternoon on the Appleton Tennis Courts.
Springfield improved to 2-0, while Western New England fell to 1-2.
Akito Shimamura (Hirono, Japan) and
Liam Huppke (Markham, Canada) at No. 1 doubles and
Angelo Guzman (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and
Phakin Thongbooncharoen (Bangkok, Thailand) at No. 2 doubles earned 6-2 victories to begin the day before
Tim Norin (Stockholm, Sweden) and
Ethan Gomulka (San Bernardino, Calif.) won a decisive 6-1 match at No. 3 doubles.
The Pride went on to win all six singles matches in straight sets en route to the 7-0 victory. Guzman defeated Colby Esposito, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1, Shimamura defeated Quinn Northrup, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 and Huppke bested Michel Abizaid Nunez, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3. Thongbooncharoen topped Nolan Jermain, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4, Gomulka eased by Kyle Poccia, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 and Norin blanked Eston Fowler, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
Springfield will host its fall invitational on Saturday as the Pride will welcome Nichols College, Colby-Sawyer College and Coast Guard to Alden Street beginning at 9:30 am.
