Men's Tennis Competes With Nichols & Colby-Sawyer at Fall Invitational

Box Score Springfield, Mass. – October 11, 2025 – The Springfield College men's tennis team hosted its fall invitational on Saturday afternoon alongside Nichols College, Colby-Sawyer College and Coast Guard.

The Pride played 12 matches apiece against the Bison and Chargers (four doubles and eight singles) throughout the afternoon and came away with six doubles wins and 13 singles wins.

Liam Huppke (Markham, Canada) and Akito Shimamura (Hirono, Japan) and Tim Norin (Stockholm, Sweden) and Ethan Gomulka (San Bernardino, Calif.) teamed up for four of Springfield's six doubles wins. Huppke and Shimamura topped the team from Nichols, 6-2, and the team from Colby-Sawyer, 6-4, while Norin and Gomulka defeated the team from Nichols, 7-5, and the team from Colby-Sawyer, 6-3. Phakin Thongbooncharoen (Bangkok, Thailand) and Angelo Guzman (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) earned a 6-3 doubles win over Colby-Sawyer, while Ricardo Rodriguez Battaglia (Leon, Mexico) and Emiliano Montenegro Galarza (Huixquiucan, Mexico) earned a 6-2 decision over Colby-Sawyer to complete doubles today.

In singles play, Guzman, Huppke, Thongbooncharoen, Norin and Montenegro all went 2-0 today. Thongbooncharoen battled for a pair of three set wins as he defeated Felipe Gonzalez of Nichols, 3-6, 6-2, 11-9 and Leo Brezzi of Colby-Sawyer, 6-4, 2-6, 10-2. Huppke and Norin each came from a set down against Nichols to win, 5-7, 6-3, 10-6 and 0-6, 6-2, 10-4, respectively, before both won in straight sets against Colby-Sawyer, 6-2, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-1, respectively.

Guzman and Montenegro were victorious against both Nichols and Colby-Sawyer in straight sets to round of the highlights from today's invitational.

Springfield will wrap up the fall season with a dual against the University of Hartford on Wednesday at 4:00 pm.
