Williamstown, Mass. - November 25, 2025 - The Springfield College women's basketball team were handed a loss after a second-half comeback from Williams, 64-57, on Tuesday evening.
Williams improves to 3-2 overall while Springfield drops to 4-3.
Carrie Hess (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Amanda Leary (Westbury, N.Y.) led the Pride with 13 points each while Leary also added three steals and a block. Natalie Lucas (Madison, Conn.) and Claire Finney (Haverhill, Mass.) had 11 points apiece with Finney handing out four assists while Lucas grabbed seven rebounds and had three steals. Madison Lopez (Bronx, N.Y.) had seven points, six rebounds, and two steals.
The Ephs had their only lead for just 41 seconds in the first quarter before taking the lead again at 2:38 in the third quarter and did not look back. Micah Walton's 14 second-half points powered Williams to outscore Springfield 34-23 in the third and fourth quarters, and take home the win.
The Pride went on an 8-0 run in the first three minutes of the game with help from Leary who had stolen the ball for a fast break and then in the next possession, had completed a three-point play. Williams then took the lead after going on an 11-2 run after back-to-back baskets from Logan Coster. Leary had nine points in the first to end the quarter with the lead, 14-13.
It was a slow start to the second quarter with only three total points being scored within the first two minutes before Finney knocked down a pair of free throws to give the Pride a four-point lead, 18-14. Both teams continued to exchange baskets throughout the rest of the second quarter until the Ephs had the last four points of the quarter to keep Springfield's lead within reach, 34-30. Finney had seven points this quarter, while Evelyn Walcott and Walton had five apiece for Williams.
With only five points being scored in the first three and a half minutes, a jumper from Hess sparked some more offense for both squads. After back-to-back three-pointers from Sarah Pettegrove, Springfield called a timeout to break up some momentum for the Ephs, but Williams then went on to a 6-0 run to take just its second lead of the game, 44-42, late in the third.
Kathleen Smith of Williams came out in the fourth quarter with two-straight baskets to lead 52-44, forcing a timeout from Springfield. Walton continued to power the Ephs, giving them a nine point lead, 60-51, with just two minutes remaining. The Pride looked to come back after three late-game baskets, but it was too late as the Ephs were able to take home the win, 64-57.
Williams shot 44.8-percent (26-for-58) from the floor and were 9-for-16 from the charity stripe (56.3-percent) while Springfield shot 35.4-percent (23-for-65) from the floor and were 8-for-10 (80-percent) from the free throw line. Both teams only made three from beyond the arc with the Ephs shooting 30-percent and the Pride shooting 16.7-percent.
Williams held a 44-33 edge on rebounds while Springfield scored 21 points on 16 turnovers. Both teams scored over 30 points from within the paint.
