New London, Conn. - November 4, 2025 - The sixth-seeded Springfield College men's soccer team fell to third-seeded Coast Guard in penalty kicks after finishing in a 1-1 tie during regulation in the opening round of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament.

Coast Guard will travel to second-seeded Babson on Thursday at 1:00 pm for the semifinal round of the tournament. The Pride finish their season with a record of 7-9-2. 

In the 37th minute, Springfield was awarded a penalty kick that Parker Thornton (Malden, Mass.) took and buried into the bottom left corner to put the Pride up, 1-0.

About two minutes later, Eric Howard connected with Alex Thissell to score the equalizer. 

After a back-and-forth match that remained tied at one through regulation and overtime, the teams were forced to a round of penalty kicks. Coast Guard came out victorious after Oliver Perry drilled the final kick of the round to send the Bears to the semifinals, 4-3. Ayaan Ahmad (West Springfield, Mass.), Morgan Thibodeau (Carrabassett Valley, Maine), and Aidan Hallinan (New Windsor, N.Y.) all scored for the Pride while Kai Trager, James Von Dyl, Jack Lopez, and Perry scored for the Bears.

Springfield edged Coast Guard 20-19 on shots and 6-5 on corner kicks. Noah Pote (Washington, Conn.) had six saves in the draw.
