Women's Volleyball Sweeps Salve Regina In Penultimate Contest of Regular Season

Newport, RI – November 4, 2025 – The Springfield College women's volleyball team picked up a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) win on the road against Salve Regina University in straight sets, 25-21, 25-14, 25-11 on Tuesday night.

Springfield, which entered the match 36th in the most recent NCAA Power Index rankings, improved to 22-5 overall and to 9-1 in NEWMAC play, while Salve Regina dropped to 11-14, 1-9. Springfield will take on Babson College on Saturday afternoon in Blake Arena with the winner securing the second seed in next week's NEWMAC Championship Tournament.

Ahunna James (Plainville, Mass.) powered Springfield's offense with nine kills in addition to her having eight digs, one block and two aces on the night. Alexa Bonato (Orange, Conn.) added eight kills, Jodi Saelua (Mililani, Hawaii) notched six kills and Emily Keaveney (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) hit a team-best .417 with five kills.

Springfield raced out to a 6-1 lead in the opening set before Salve Regina embarked on an impressive 12-1 run to take a 13-7 lead. The Pride climbed back eventually knotting the score at 15 before three straight Seahawks errors made it 20-17. Kills by Bonato and James set up set point for Springfield before Saelua punched the ball through the middle off a feed from Tori Colosimo (Fairport, N.Y.) giving the Pride the first, 25-21.

Springfield scored seven of the first eight points of the middle set as a kill from James ignited the set-starting run. Leading 15-9, Saelua and Keaveney began a run of five straight points for the Pride as Springfield extended its lead to 20-9. Salve Regina got as close as eight points, but a Keaveney kill and a Colosimo ace secured the second, 25-14.

Saelua, Keaveney and Karenna Allain (Woodbridge, Conn.) pushed Springfield ahead 14-6 in the third before back-to-back aces from Keaveney made it 22-9. Swings by Aubrey Hughes (Liberty Hill, Texas), James and Bonato ended the set, 25-11, and the sweep for the Pride. Springfield hit .316 in both the second and third sets and .242 for the night.
