Babson Park, Mass. – November 6, 2025 – The fourth-seeded Springfield College field hockey team fell to top-seeded and No. 3 nationally-ranked Babson College, 2-0, in the semifinal round of the 2025 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship Tournament on Thursday night on MacDowell Field.
Babson improved to 19-1 overall and will take on second-seeded WPI in Saturday's NEWMAC title game, while Springfield sees its season end at 13-7 – the most wins the Pride have produced since 2018.
Tonight's game was a defensive battle as Babson only produced 12 shots, while Springfield only mustered five shots. The host Beavers also held a 12-4 advantage in penalty corners, but first-year keeper
Sam Orcutt (Forestdale, Mass.) made five stops in the cage for Springfield tonight.
Both of Babson's goals came in the second quarter and just two minutes apart. Penny Baroni tipped in her 11th goal of the season off a short pass from Grace Mullaney in the 26th minute before Caroline DiGiovanni redirected a long through pass from Mullaney just two minutes later. This was all of the offense tonight's contest would see as both teams combined for just nine shots in the second half.
Clare Moore (New Preston, Conn.) nearly found the back of the cage in the fourth off a penalty corner from
Nicolette Morlock (Rexford, N.Y), but the attempt trickled wide as Madison Tibbals had to make only one stop for the Beavers.
