Newton, Mass. - December 5, 2025 - The Springfield College women's basketball team beat undefeated Lasell, 76-68, on Friday night behind a career-high 29-point game from Carrie Hess (Shrewsbury, Mass.).
Springfield improves to 6-3 overall while Lasell moves to 7-1 after dropping its first game of the season.
After a 20-point game on Wednesday night, Hess stayed hot to lead the Pride with 29 points, six rebounds, three steals, a block, and an assist. Natalie Lucas (Madison, Conn.) had 13 points, nine rebounds, and three assists while Amanda Leary (Westbury, N.Y.) had 11 points, four assists, three rebounds, a block, and a steal. Ruth Boles (South Portland, Maine) had a career-high 10 points while the Pride totaled 22 assists with Claire Finney (Haverhill, Mass.) and Madison Lopez (Bronx, N.Y.) combining for 11.
Hess got the Pride going as she scored the first four points of the game and continued to roll, scoring eight points and having an assist in the first quarter to have a hand in 10 of Springfield's first quarter points to take the lead, 16-13.
The two teams exchanged baskets early in the second, but Springfield also went on two 6-0 runs to keep the lead. With 3:20 left in the second quarter, a layup from Finney sparked a 8-0 run for the Pride to lead 37-28 going into the halftime break.
The Lasers came into the third quarter with six-straight points to cut down Springfield's lead to three. Hess and Leary then followed up with a combined 11 points to lead 48-40 with 3:25 left in the third. After Lasell scored back-to-back baskets, Stefany Padula (Franklin, Mass.) hit a buzzer beater to go up 50-44 going into the fourth quarter.
Three-pointers from Hess, Lucas, and Leary helped the Pride to a ten-point lead - their biggest of the night - as the Lasers continued to put pressure on Springfield. Lasell and Springfield exchanged baskets with the Lasers continuously getting within six, but the Pride knocked down their free throws to complete the win, 76-68, after going 9-for-10 at the charity stripe in the fourth. The Pride finished the game 14-for-19 from the free throw line (73.7-percent).
Both teams shot over 40-percent from the floor with the Pride leading with 46.8-percent (29-for-62) while the Lasers shot 41.9-percent (26-for-62). Lasell shot 43.8-percent (7-for-16) from beyond the arc with six of them coming from Shirle Major while Springfield only made four three-pointers. Springfield dominated the boards, outrebounding Lasell 41-32 including 14 offensive rebounds that accounted for 10 second chance points while also having 13 points off turnovers.
The Pride will host nationally-ranked No. 13/14 Trinity (Conn.) on Monday, December 8 at 7:00 pm in Blake Arena.
