Women's Basketball Drops 60-56 NEWMAC Decision to Babson

Springfield, Mass. – February 16, 2025 – The Springfield College women's basketball team fell to Babson College, 60-56, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest on Saturday in Blake Arena.

Babson improved to 14-9 overall and to 6-3 in the NEWMAC, while Springfield dropped to 13-10, 5-4.

Kassidy Carrano (West Haven, Conn.) recorded 16 points, four rebounds, two steals and a block to lead Springfield this afternoon, while Amanda Leary (Westbury, N.Y.) added 15 points and four boards and Carrie Hess (Shrewsbury, Mass.) tallied ten points and nine rebounds off the bench. Angie Czeremcha (West Springfield, Mass.) also recorded nine points and four rebounds in the effort.

Babson was led by Samantha Reale, who posted 15 points, seven rebounds, five steals and an assist. Katelyn Mollica and Camilla Silk also added double digit point totals for the visiting Beavers in the win.

In almost a duplicated game from the last time Babson and Springfield met earlier this season, the Beavers jumped out to a huge first quarter lead. This time it was 22-9 in favor of Babson after one quarter of play – compared to the 22-12 advantage the Beavers held on January 15. Babson held its largest lead of the game of 16 points, 27-11, early in the second following a layup from Reale.

Prior to halftime, Springfield was able to cut its deficit to nine as a trey by Carrano off a pass from Izzy Pazzaglia (Salem, Conn.) and a layup from Hess off a feed from Natalie Lucas (Madison, Conn.) made the score 33-24 at the break.

A pull up jumper by Carrano opened the scoring in the third for Springfield as the Pride went on to outscore Babson by a 12-8 margin over the ten minute stanza making it just a five point edge for the Beavers, 41-36.

Both teams traded buckets to begin the fourth before back-to-back layups from Czeremcha tied the score at 45-45 with 4:40 remaining in regulation. A pull up jumper by Carrano gave Springfield its first lead of the game at 48-47 just minutes later, but Chloe Perreault knocked down a mid-range shot and Mollica buried a three to push Babson's lead to four – the difference the Beavers needed to clinch the win.

Leary knocked down a trey of her own from the top of the arc to make it a one point game, but Babson went 6-for-6 at the stripe for the 60-56 final.

Springfield matched a season-high with eight three pointers tonight – the most the team has had since the season-opener against Western New England on November 8.

Springfield will travel to Clark for its final road regular season game of the year on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
