Newport, R.I. — February 5, 2025 — The Springfield College men's basketball team fell to Salve Regina, 69-62, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Wednesday night at the Rodgers Recreation Center.
Springfield (8-12, 5-6 NEWMAC) returns to Blake Arena this Saturday against Babson at 12:30 pm, while Salve Regina (8-13, 5-7 NEWMAC) visits Wheaton on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
Salve Regina completed the two game series sweep over Springfield this year after topping the Pride back on January 11, 79-69, in Blake Arena. Since joining the NEWMAC, Salve Regina is 3-1 against Springfield.
John Paulino (New Bedford, Mass.) filled the stat sheet for the Pride with nine points, six assists, and four rebounds, while

Jarron Flynn (Roslindale, Mass.) and
Josiah Evely (Toronto, Ontario) also added eight and seven points apiece, respectively.
Despite trailing by as many as 15 points, 61-46, with 5:33 remaining in the second half, Springfield never backed away from the challenge, bringing the game within four points at 66-62 late in the contest following a 16-5 run.
The Pride produced a 16-6 run over the next 4:42 thanks to a red-hot 7-for-11 shooting performance which featured a pair of buckets from behind the arc. Over the spurt,
Reece Samuels (Upper Marlboro, Md.) and Matteson led the way with six points each, while
Zachary Campbell (Philadelphia, Pa.) and
Rashard Samuels (Upper Marlboro, Md.) both contributed two points.
Salve Regina was able to hold off the comeback effort, however, going 3-for-5 at the free throw line down the stretch.
As a team, the Seahawks shot 51.0-percent from the floor (25-49), a season-best 52.6-percent from beyond the arc (10-19), and 81.8-percent at the free throw line (9-11). The hosts led for 39:27 (98.6% of the contest).
Springfield (34.2 FG%) outscored the Seahawks 36-32 in bench points, 18-10 in transition, 35-11 off turnovers, 12-6 on second-chance opportunities, and 40-28 in the paint.
