No. 4 Men's Volleyball Downs No. 3 Stevens in Four

Hoboken, N.J. – March 1, 2025 – Powered by a combined 41 kills from Carter Durivage (East Greenbush, N.Y.), Jake DesLauriers (Eastport, N.Y.) and Sam Levinson (LaGrange, Ill.), the Springfield College men's volleyball team defeated third-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology in four sets on Saturday evening in Canavan Arena. Springfield won by scores of 25-20, 24-26, 25-20, 25-17 and marks the Pride's third win over a ranked opponent this season.

Springfield, which was ranked No. 4 in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association's (AVCA) Division III national poll, improved to 13-2, while Stevens, ranked third in the same poll, moved to 14-3. Springfield handed Stevens its first home loss since March 13, 2021 – a stretch that lasted 59 matches. Springfield also had not won in Canavan Arena since 2015

Springfield hit .385 in the match with a season-high 55 kills against Stevens tonight. Durivage registered a team-high 15 kills and hit .353 to go along with four aces and three digs, while DesLauriers posted 14 kills and hit .520 to go along with eight digs and Levinson tallied 12 kills and hit .240 to go along with six digs. Chris Rouleau (Bay Shore, N.Y.) also hit .556 with six kills, while Dylan Mulvaney (Reston, Va.) dished out 43 assists and added eight digs. Koby Sherman led Stevens with 17 kills in the setback.

Springfield rallied from an early 8-3 deficit with five straight points as a swing from DesLauriers began the spurt before an ace from Levinson knotted the score at eight. Then after trading points, DesLauriers gave Springfield a 19-16 edge a he ignited another run with a kill and an ace with a block by Rouleau and Mulvaney sandwiched between. Up three at 23-20, two Stevens errors gave the Pride set one, 25-20. As a team, Springfield hit .520 in the first (14-1-25) compared to just .257 for the hosts (14-5-35).

The second set featured 13 tie scores with Levinson leading the offensive charge with six kills in the stanza. Springfield held a 20-17 lead following a kill from DesLauriers, but Stevens ripped off five straight points on three kills and a block – two of which came from Sherman for the 22-20 edge. The hosts tied the score at 23 and 24 before two Springfield errors knotted the match at one set apiece.

Tied at 16 in the third, a swing by Durivage ignited a 7-2 run for Springfield for a 23-18 advantage. A block in the middle from Levinson and Brennan Cutter (Trumbull, Conn.) as well as an ace from Mulvaney made it a 19-16 score before two Stevens errors, an ace from Durivage and a kill from DesLauriers pushed Springfield's lead to five at 23-18. DesLauriers gave the Pride set point and a service error secured the third, 25-20, for Springfield.

Springfield led 18-14 in the fourth following a swing by Rouleau and went on to score seven of the match's final nine points en route to the four set victory. Durivage registered three kills over the match-ending run, DesLauriers had a kill and an ace, while a swing by Cutter ultimately terminated the set, 25-17, and the match at 3-1 in favor of the Pride.

Springfield will travel to New Paltz on Wednesday at 6:00 pm. Earlier this season, the Pride defeated the Hawks by scores of 25-14, 19-25, 25-23, 25-17.
