New Paltz, N.Y. – March 5, 2025 – The Springfield College men's volleyball team completed the season series sweep against New Paltz tonight as the Pride topped the Hawks in straight sets by scores of 25-22, 25-23, 25-20.
Springfield, which was ranked No. 3 in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association's (AVCA) Division III national poll, improved to 14-2, while New Paltz fell to 8-9.
Sam Levinson (LaGrange, Ill.) matched a season-high with 12 kills, hit .476 and registered three blocks to lead Springfield tonight.
Carter Durivage (East Greenbush, N.Y.) posted ten kills and added a team-best five digs, while
Chris Rouleau (Bay Shore, N.Y.) hit a team-best .533 with nine kills to go along with two blocks and
Dylan Mulvaney (Reston, Va.) registered 36 assists in the sweep. New Paltz was guided by Michael Spiegel, who notched 11 kills hitting .474 in the setback.
New Paltz scored six of the first eight points of the opening set before a 6-2 run by Springfield that was capped on a swing by Durivage knotted the score at eight. Tied at 20 late in the set, a pair of kills by Levinson and a swing through the middle by Rouleau gave Springfield a 23-21 edge. Rouleau and Levinson then teamed up for a block off a swing from Nikko Tenedorio before Rouleau terminated the set, 25-22, in favor of the Pride.
Springfield trailed 13-10 midway through the second before the Pride used a 7-3 run that featured a pair of kills from Durivage as well as another block from Rouleau and Levinson to gain a 17-16 edge. Then even at 23, a service error by the hosts and an ace by
Jake DesLauriers (Eastport, N.Y.) gave Springfield the second, 25-23.
Springfield hit a match-high .478 (14-3-23) in the third to secure the sweep as Levinson recorded six of his 12 kills in the final stanza. The Pride raced out to an 8-5 lead following a swing from Levinson and a service error by New Paltz. Springfield then built the lead it needed to win following a 7-4 run to go ahead 15-10. A solo block from
Brennan Cutter (Trumbull, Conn.) made it a seven point advantage for the Pride before two kills from Durivage terminated the set, 25-20, and the match in straight sets.
Springfield will host Endicott College and Hunter College for a tri-match on Saturday, March 8 beginning at noon in Blake Arena.
