Springfield, Mass. – March 8, 2025 – The Springfield College men's volleyball team swept both Endicott College and Hunter College in a Saturday tri-match played inside Blake Arena.
Springfield, which was ranked No. 3 in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association's (AVCA) Division III national poll, improved to 16-2 with its eighth straight victory. The Pride topped the Gulls by scores of 25-12, 25-18, 25-16 and the Hawks 25-19, 25-13, 25-15.
In the opener against Endicott,
Jake DesLauriers (Eastport, N.Y.) hit .800 with a match-high 12 kills on 15 errorless swings to go along with four aces and two digs.
Carter Durivage (East Greenbush, N.Y.) chipped in with seven kills, while
Chris Rouleau (Bay Shore, N.Y.) finished the match with five kills and a trio of blocks.
Dylan Mulvaney (Reston, Va.) dished out 21 assists and had two aces, while
Ricardo Ortiz (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) led the Pride with seven digs. Aidan Iacovelli powered Endicott with seven kills.
Endicott took a 7-6 lead in the first following a kill from Jake Laborde, but Springfield answered with a 15-3 run to go ahead 21-9. The run was powered by three kills and three aces from DesLauriers. Another swing by the junior outside sealed the first, 25-12.
Tied at eight in the second, three straight errors by Endicott gave Springfield an 11-8 edge before a kill and an ace by DesLauriers and a block from Durivage and Rouleau made it 14-9. The Gulls got as close as three at 17-14, but Springfield scored eight of the final 11 points of the second to take it 25-18. A kill from
Brennan Cutter (Trumbull, Conn.) started the set ending run before an ace from
Kyle Johnson (Sunnyvale, Calif.)and an error by the Gulls terminated the set.
Springfield led 14-11 in the third before five straight points put the match out of reach. Three Endicott errors paired with a kill from Durivage and an ace from Mulvaney made it 19-11 before three kills from
Joey Preische (Penfield, N.Y.), a swing by
Will Kirchhoff (Macedon, N.Y.) and an Endicott service error secured the sweep.
Springfield hit .609 in the third set alone (15 kills, 1 error, 23 swings) and hit .426 for the match – the tenth time the Pride has eclipsed a hitting percentage of .400 or better in a match. Coming into today, Springfield held the nation's second best hitting percentage (.378) only behind Southern Virginia.
AJ Seveland (Jenkintown, Pa.) and Preishce led Springfield's offense against Hunter tallying seven kills apiece. Seveland hit .875 on eight errorless swings for the Pride.
Cole Kallick (Redondo Beach, Calif.)guided the Pride with six digs, two aces and four blocks, while
Dyllan Nguyen (Fountain Valley, Calif.)posted a team-best 26 assists. Admir Cekic and Jon Domingo paced Hunter with five kills apiece.
Hunter took a 12-10 lead in the first before Springfield ripped off a 10-2 run to take a 20-14 advantage. Johnson and Presiche paced the run with two kills apiece, while DesLauriers registered a pair of aces over the spurt. Two swings from DesLauriers, a Hunter errors and a kill from Johnson secured the first set 25-19.
Springfield raced out to a 7-2 lead in the second following kills from Preishce and Kallick. Then up 12-7, the Pride embarked on a 9-2 run to push the advantage to 21-9. Another error from Hunter and an ace from Kirchhof gave the Pride a 25-13 win the second.
In the third, Springfield took a 12-4 lead following a kill from Nguyen before
Tyler Williams (Eastvale, Calif.) swung for a kill pushing Springfield's lead to 11 at 21-10. Up 23-13, a pair swings by
Samer Kayed (Dubai, UAE) completed the sweep for the Pride.
Springfield will travel to MIT on Wednesday for a match beginning at 7:00 pm from Rockwell Cage.
