Cambridge, Mass. – March 12, 2025 – The Springfield College men's volleyball team hit a season-high .548 to ease by MIT in straight sets on Wednesday evening in Rockwell Cage.
Springfield, which was ranked No. 3 in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association's (AVCA) Division III national poll, improved to 17-2 with its ninth straight victory. Springfield also entered tonight ranked fifth in the initial NCAA Power Index (NPI), while MIT is ranked 37th.
The Pride topped the Engineers by scores of 25-11, 25-22, 25-17.
Springfield was guided by
Sam Levinson (LaGrange, Ill.) as he produced ten kills and hit .643 on the night to go along with four digs and five total blocks, while
Chris Rouleau (Bay Shore, N.Y.) hit .727 with nine kills and two blocks and
Jake DesLauriers (Eastport, N.Y.) hit .467 with eight kills, four digs and a block.
Giancarlo Carrion (San Juan, Puerto Rico) led the way with four aces,
Dylan Mulvaney (Reston, Va.) dished out 34 assists and
Ricardo Ortiz (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) posted eight digs.
Springfield hit .684 in the first with 14 kills led by DesLauriers with four kills and Rouleau with three kills. The Pride raced out to a 7-2 lead following a swing by DesLauriers before an 8-2 run that featured a pair of kills from
Carter Durivage (East Greenbush, N.Y.) pushed Springfield's lead to nine at 17-8. MIT got three points back, but Springfield scored the final seven points of the set to take it by a score of 25-11.
Springfield produced a match-high 15 kills in the middle set led by Levinson. The set featured 12 tie scores and four lead changes with the final time coming at 21 all late in the stanza. A service error from MIT and a block from Levinson and Rouleau made it 23-21 before another service error from the Engineers and a kill from DesLauriers gave Springfield the middle set, 25-22.
Tied at nine in the third, Springfield ripped off a 10-1 run to push its lead to 19-10. The run began on a swing from Levinson and was capped on an ace from Carrion. After trading points, a service error from MIT and a block in the middle by
Will Kirchhoff (Macedon, N.Y.) secured the sweep for Springfield. The Pride hit .556 (11-1-18) in the final set en route to the team's ninth consecutive victory.
Springfield will host Russell Sage on Friday evening at 6:00 pm in Dana Gymnasium.
