No. 3 Men's Volleyball Sweeps Sage

Springfield, Mass. – March 14, 2025 – The Springfield College men's volleyball team completed the season sweep over Sage as the Pride topped the Gators in straights sets on Friday evening in Dana Gymnasium. Springfield won by scores of 25-18, 25-19, 25-17.

Springfield, which was ranked No. 3 in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association's (AVCA) Division III national poll, improved to 18-2 with its ninth straight victory. Springfield also entered tonight ranked fifth in the initial NCAA Power Index (NPI).

Springfield had 11 student-athletes record at least one kill in the win and was led by Carter Durivage (East Greenbush, N.Y.) who registered eight kills and hit .500 on the night, while AJ Seveland (Jenkintown, Pa.)added seven kills and Joey Preische (Penfield, N.Y.) tallied five kills. Sam Levinson (LaGrange, Ill.)recorded a team-best four aces, Ricardo Ortiz (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) notched a team-best eight digs, and Dyllan Nguyen (Fountain Valley, Calif.) dished out 18 assists.

Up 10-8 in the first, Springfield used four straight service aces from Levinson to push ahead 15-8. After trading points late in the set, a pair of kills from Levinson and an error by Sage gave Springfield the opening set, 25-18.

Springfield raced out to a 7-2 lead in the second and eventually built a seven point differential following an ace from Giancarlo Carrion (San Juan, Puerto Rico). Sage climbed back within two at 19-17, but back-to-back swings from Durivage and four straight errors by the Gators secured set two, 25-19.

Up 8-6 in the third, Springfield embarked on a 7-2 run – five points came off errors by Sages, while Preische swung for a kill after a big block in the middle from Nguyen and Will Kirchhoff (Macedon, N.Y.). A kill from Richard Eber Jr. (Hummelstown, Pa.) made it 23-14 before two errors once again by Sage gave Springfield the third, 25-17.

Springfield will head to Nichols College on Wednesday, March 26 at 6:00 pm.
