Baseball Swept By Hamilton In Florida

Auburndale, Mass. – March 16, 2025 – The Springfield College baseball team fell twice to Hamilton College in a pair of non-conference contest at the Lake Myrtle Complex on day two of the team's trip to Florida.

Hamilton won game one, 8-1, in eight innings and the nightcap, 6-5, in seven frames. Hamilton improved to 2-1, while Springfield dropped to 2-6.

Game One: Hamilton 8, Springfield 1 (8 Innings)

It was a pitchers duel in game one until the contest was forced into extra innings. Josh Mayo (Westfield, Mass.) pitched seven frames, struck out 12 and allowed three runs (two earned) for Springfield, while Aden Soroca tossed six innings, struck out seven and allowed one run for Hamilton.

Hamilton scored its first run in the first on a wild pitch before Michael Lepere (Beacon, N.Y.) launched the game-tying home run over the fence in the bottom of the third. The game went to the eighth and with the international tie breaker in effect, the Continentals had the go ahead run on second.

After a wild pitch and hit by pitch forced Springfield to change pitchers, Taylor Kaufman took the first pitch he saw and drilled it over the fence in right for a 4-1 lead. The very next batter in Michael Tallarida made it back-to-back homers as Hamilton made it 5-1 before a pair of RBI doubles accounted for the 8-1 final.

Game Two: Hamilton 6, Springfield 5

Springfield trailed 5-0 heading into the third, but an RBI knock from Nate Garafalo (Kinderhook, N.Y.) put the Pride on the board. Back-to-back RBI knocks from Lepere and Nicholas Lloyd (Easthampton, Mass.) cut Springfield's deficit to two at 5-3 through three.

With two outs in the fourth, Springfield loaded the bases and tied the game at five on a hard hit infield two run single from Lepere. Hamilton answered with a double and an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth and Ethan Righter shut down the Pride bats over the final 2.2 innings as the Continentals completed the two game sweep.

Springfield will take on Eastern Connecticut State University tomorrow at 4:15pm.
