Softball Defeats Fredonia and Clarkson to Open Trip to Florida

Clermont, Fla. – March 16, 2025 – The Springfield College softball team opened its trip to Florida with victories over Fredonia, 8-0, and Clarkson, 9-4, on Sunday afternoon at Hancock Park. Springfield now sits at 4-2 on the young season.

Springfield 8, Fredonia 0 (5 Innings)

Springfield put together a pair of runs in the top of the first on an RBI double from Callie Gendron (Berlin, Conn.) that plated Brynlee Eckles (Ellington, Conn.) and an RBI single to left from Katie Manzone (Wareham, Mass.) that plated Gendron.

The Pride then put the game out of reach with a six spot in the top of the third. Hits by Amelia DeRosa (Miller Place, N.Y.) and Carissa Pecchia (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) led to second RBI knocks from both Gendron and Manzone. An error accounted for two additional runs before a two-run single up the middle from Kate Katsetos (Brewster, N.Y.) made it 8-0.

DeRosa and Lily McCauliffe (Greenwich, Conn.) combined to pitch the five inning complete game shutout surrendering just four hits and striking out five.

Springfield 9, Clarkson 4

Springfield went down 2-0 in the top of the first on a pair of bases loaded walks, but answered with a five spot in the bottom of the frame that was highlighted by a three-run round tripper by Lucy Puskas (Roxbury, Conn.) and RBI singles from Gendron and Katsetos.
With runners on second and third allowed Michaela Ponticello (Gloversville, N.Y.) to drive in Puskas in the third to make it 6-2. Springfield went on to add one run in the fifth and two in the sixth to account for the 9-4 win.

Abby Robinson (East Lyme, Conn.) and Julia Rimshnick (Staten Island, N.Y.) combined to get the win in the circle for Springfield.

Springfield will play Hope College and Wisconsin-Whitewater tomorrow at 9:00 am and 11:30 am respectively at the Legends Way Complex.
