Clermont, Fla. – March 17, 2025 – The Springfield College softball split its doubleheader against Hope College and No. 21 Wisconsin-Whitewater on Monday morning at the Legends Way Complex.
Springfield moved its record to 5-3 after playing its third game of the season against a top-25 team. Springfield will face No. 4 ranked Rowan and New Paltz on Wednesday morning beginning at 9:00 am.
Game One: Springfield 7, Hope 4
Springfield avenged a loss against Hope from a season ago on Monday morning. First-year
Julia Rimshnick (Staten Island, N.Y.) had a solid day in the circle as she tossed five innings, scattered seven hits and struck out eight.
Lily McCauliffe (Greenwich, N.Y.) earned her second save of the season after tossing the final two frames as she allowed just one hit facing the final seven batters of the contest.
Katie Manzone (Wareham, Mass.) and
Lucy Puskas (Roxbury, Conn.) powered Springfield's offense with two hits and two RBI.
Carissa Pecchia (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) and
Callie Gendron (Berlin, Conn.) also added two hits for Springfield in the victory. At the top of the lineup,
Brynlee Eckles (Ellington, Conn.) and
Amelia DeRosa (Miller Place, N.Y.) combined to score four of Springfield's seven runs.
Hope put together three runs in the top of the second before Springfield went on to score seven combined runs in the bottom of the third and fourth innings. With one out in the third, Springfield took advantage of back-to-back fielding errors and as Pecchia punched in the Pride's first run of the game on an infield single. Manzone, Puskas and
Kate Katsetos (Brewster, N.Y.) followed with RBI base knocks to close the frame.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth, back-to-back RBI knocks from Manzone and Puskas made the score 6-3 before an error allowed
Maddie Tse (Glenville, N.Y.) to score Springfield's seventh run.
Rimshnick and McCauliffe closed the game and secured the 7-4 victory for Springfield from the circle.
Game Two: No. 21 Wisconsin-Whitewater 8, Springfield 7
Gendron went 3-for-5 at the dish for Springfield in the nightcap and six different student-athletes drove in one run in the setback. DeRosa registered just one hit but came across to score three different times.
Springfield put together a pair of runs in the top of the first on an RBI knock from Gendron before she came across to score on an error.
Whitewater answered with one run in the bottom of the first and three in the bottom of the second for a 4-2 edge and went on to score at least one run in each frame except for the bottom of the sixth.
Trailing 5-3 in the top of the fourth, Springfield loaded the bases and used an RBI single from Puskas and back-to-back walks from
Michaela Ponticello (Gloversville, N.Y.) and Katsetos to take a 6-5 edge.
An RBI double from Whitewater knotted the score at six in the bottom of the fourth before an error by Springfield and an RBI knock gave the Warhawks an 8-6 advantage. Springfield attempted to rally in the top of the seventh, but Whitewater got out of the jam surrendering just one run for the 8-7 final.
