Softball Splits Shutouts Against No. 4 Rowan and New Paltz

Clermont, Fla. – March 19, 2025 – The Springfield College softball team split a pair of shutouts against fourth-ranked and undefeated Rowan University and SUNY New Paltz on Wednesday afternoon at the Legends Way Complex.

Springfield's record now sits at 6-4 overall with two games remaining in Florida tomorrow. The Pride will play Buffalo State and Plymouth State beginning at 9:00 am from Hancock Park.

No. 4 Rowan 7, Springfield 0

Rowan scored four runs in the top of the first inning and batted through the entirety of the lineup. An RBI knock to right center put Rowan ahead 1-0 before a two run double from Breanna Bryant made it 3-0 and Kate Evick tacked on the Profs' fourth run on a single to left.

Callie Gendron (Berlin, Conn.) recorded Springfield's first hit of the game with a double to right center. Then in the top of the third, Abigail Pawlowski began the frame with a single and scored Rowan's fifth run on an RBI double. A two-run sacrifice fly by Payton McNair accounted for the 7-0 final.

Springfield put together six hits against one of the top pitchers in the country as Gendron went 2-for-3 at the plate. Four other student-athletes produced one hit apiece for the Pride.

Emily McCutcheon pitched a complete game shutout for Rowan to move to 8-0, while Amelia DeRosa (Miller Place, N.Y.) fell to 2-3 in the circle for the Pride.

Springfield 14, New Paltz 0

Springfield scored 14 runs on 14 hits in the nightcap against New Paltz. Gendron went 3-for-3 with five RBI and two runs. Brynlee Eckles (Ellington, Conn.) went 2-for-2 and scored four runs, DeRosa went 2-for-4 with two runs, Michaela Ponticello (Gloversville, N.Y.) went 2-for-3 with three RBI and Kate Katsetos (Brewster, N.Y.) went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

In the circle, Julia Rimshnick (Staten Island, N.Y.) scattered six hits and struck out three in four shutout innings for Springfield as she moved to 3-0 on the season.

A three run round tripper from Gendron put Springfield ahead 3-0 in the top of the first before a single to center from Katsetos plated Lucy Puskas (Roxbury, Conn.) to make it 4-0. Springfield then exploded for five runs in the top of the second. A single up the middle from Gendron pushed Eckles across the plate before a bases clearing triple to left center from Ponticello made it 8-0 and then once again Katsetos tallied her second RBI on a single up the middle.

Gendron continued her hot streak at the dish with an RBI double in the third before a single from Puskas made it 12-0 through three. Springfield capped the run barrage in the fourth in an RBI triple to left center.

New Paltz loaded the bases with no outs in the third before Rimshnick retired the side in order to preserve the shutout and then loaded the bases again in the fourth and Rimshnick got out of the jam once again. Lily McCauliffe (Greenwich, Conn.) retired New Paltz 1-2-3 in the fifth as Springfield defeated the Hawks, 14-0.
