Softball Splits With Buffalo State & Plymouth State to Conclude The Spring Games

Clermont, Fla. – March 20, 2025 – The Springfield College softball team split its final two games in Florida against Buffalo State and Plymouth State on Thursday afternoon at Hancock Park.

Springfield will return to Massachusetts with a record of 7-5 and head to Eastern Connecticut State University on Tuesday afternoon for a non-conference doubleheader.

Springfield 3, Buffalo State 2

After a scoreless first, Lucy Puskas (Roxbury, Conn.) drilled a two-run homer over the fence in right field to give Springfield the early edge. Buffalo State answered with an RBI single and then took advantage of an error to even the score at two through three frames.

With runners on second and third, Michaela Ponticello (Gloversville, N.Y.) drove in what proved to be the game winning run with a ground out to the second baseman in the bottom of the fourth.

Amelia DeRosa (Miller Place, N.Y.) set Buffalo State down in order in the sixth and the seventh to earn her third win of the spring.

Plymouth State 8, Springfield 4

Springfield trailed 3-0 through two innings before RBI singles from Callie Gendron (Berlin, Conn.) and Katie Manzone (Wareham, Mass.) cut the deficit to just one. Then in the fourth, DeRosa drove in the game-tying run on a ground out to the shortstop which allowed Sarah Falcone (Monroe, Conn.) to cross the plate.

Plymouth State, however, put up a three spot in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double to center, an RBI triple to right and a fielder's choice for a 6-3 advantage en route to the 8-4 win. The Panthers tacked on solo runs in the fifth and the sixth before an error accounted for Springfield's fourth run of the game in the top of the seventh.
