Women's Lacrosse Rolls to NEWMAC Win Against Salve Regina

Springfield, Mass. – March 22, 2025 – The Springfield College women's lacrosse team picked up a 19-3 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) victory over Salve Regina University on Saturday afternoon on Stagg Field.

Springfield improved to 6-1 overall and to 2-0 in NEWMAC play, while Salve Regina dipped to 2-5, 0-2.

Lily Johnson (Oceanside, N.Y.) and Samantha Andresen (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) both recorded hat tricks for Springfield's offensive unit, while Izzy Lalancette (Feeding Hills, Mass.)Kristyn Vasselin (Hudson, Mass.)Claire Ognibene (New Canaan, Conn.) and Abby Taylor (Cumberland Foreside, Maine)all potted a pair of goals for the Pride. Andresen also led Springfield with seven draw controls, while Hannah Hibbert (Center Harbor, N.H.) caused two turnovers and scooped up three ground balls.

As a team, Springfield held advantages in shots (38-14), ground balls (15-12) and draw controls (18-8). Springfield also went 3-for-3 on free position attempts and 16-for-17 on the clear. All three Springfield goalkeepers in Kate Laico (East Meadow, N.Y.)Lindsay Hillemeir (Unionville, Conn.) and Cedar Conrad (Amherst, Mass.) made two saves apiece for the Pride with Laico earning the win to push her record to 6-1 this season.

Springfield scored the first 11 goals of the game. Johnson and Maddie Roy (Wilbraham, Mass.) opened the scoring for Springfield early in the first before Andresen finished a pass from Lilly Vey (Foxboro, Mass.) to make it 3-0. The Pride led 8-0 after 15 minutes of play. 

Kayli Garcia put Salve on the board midway through the second, but six additional unanswered goals from Springfield including a strike by Lalancette on the man-advantage ultimately pushed the Pride's lead to 17-1. Both teams traded two goals apiece over the final nine minutes of the contest as Springfield secured the NEWMAC win over Salve, 19-3. 

This is the second straight matchup between the two teams where Springfield has held Salve Regina to three goals. 

Springfield will travel to Smith College for a NEWMAC clash on Wednesday at 6:00 pm.
