Northampton, Mass. – March 26, 2025 – The Springfield College women's lacrosse team picked up its third conference win of the season as the Pride rolled past Smith College, 18-5, in NEWMAC play on Wednesday evening.
Springfield improved to 7-1 overall and to 3-0 in NEWMAC play, while Smith dropped to 5-5, 1-2.
Samantha Andresen (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) powered Springfield's offense with four goals and nine draw controls, while
Izzy Lalancette (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and
Lily Johnson (Oceanside, N.Y.) both tallied three points on two goals and one assist.
Kristyn Vasselin (Hudson, Mass.) and
Lauren Ronai (Orange, Conn.) both added two goals for the Pride in the victory.
Isabella Mazzi (Niantic, Conn.) dished out a game-high four assists for the Pride as well.
Springfield scored the first three goals of the game on a run that was capped on a goal from Andresen off a feed from Lalancette before Smith got on the board five minutes into the contest. The two teams traded goals, but Springfield held a 4-2 edge at the end of the first.
Springfield then went on to outscore Smith, 5-0, in the second and never looked back en route to the 18-5 final. Johnson scored the first goal of the second quarter off a pass from Mazzi before Andresen scored on the man-advantage. Johnson, Mazzi and Andresen connected for goals as the score stood at 9-2 at the break.
Smith tallied the first goal of the third before Springfield went on to outscored the hosts 9-2 over the final 29 minutes of play.
Springfield held a 46-14 advantage in shots, went a perfect 14-for-14 on the clear and won 17 of 27 draw controls. The Pride also went 6-for-9 on free position shots. In goal,
Kate Laico (East Meadow, N.Y.) made five saves for Springfield.
Springfield will travel to Clark University on Saturday at 12:00 pm for another NEWMAC tilt.
