Women's Lacrosse Wins Fifth Straight With 18-3 NEWMAC Decision at Clark

Worcester, Mass. – March 29, 2025 – The Springfield College women's lacrosse team picked up its fifth consecutive win as the Pride topped Clark University, 18-3, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup at Granger Field on Saturday afternoon.

Springfield improved to 8-1 overall and to 4-0 in NEWMAC play, while Clark dropped to 6-4, 1-3.

Lily Johnson (Oceanside, N.Y.) led Springfield with four goals and two assists for six points today as she surpassed 100 career points for the Pride. Kristyn Vasselin (Hudson, Mass.)Samantha Andresen (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.)Abby Taylor (Cumberland Foreside, Maine) and Molly Forrest (Wakefield, Mass.) all contributed two goals apiece as well. Andresen tallied a game-high eight draw controls, while Kyana Alvarado (Westfield, Mass.) led the charge defensively with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

As a team, Springfield held the advantage in shots (29-12) and draw controls (18-5). The Pride also went 15-for-18 on the clear and 4-for-6 on free position shots. Clark posted a 16-13 differential in ground balls. In net, Kate Laico (East Meadow, N.Y.) made two saves and earned the win between the pipes for the Pride.

Springfield scored the first 11 goals of the game and held Clark scoreless over the opening 30 minutes of competition. Maddie Roy (Wilbraham, Mass.) opened the scoring for Springfield before Johnson scored three of the next four goals to push the lead to five. A goal from Liz Neri (Farmington, Conn.) off a pass from Johnson was sandwiched between the hat trick in the first.

Six different student-athletes combined for seven goals in the second quarter as Claire Ognibene (New Canaan, Conn.) picked up a pair of assists, while Vasselin tallied back-to-back strikes just 20-seconds apart.

Clark was able to muster just three goals in the second half including the initial goal in third quarter, but Springfield outscored the hosts 7-3 over the final 30 minutes of play en route to the 18-3 win.

Springfield will host Coast Guard on Wednesday evening at 6:00 pm on Stagg Field.
