Springfield, Mass. – April 2, 2025 – The Springfield College women's lacrosse team took down its sixth straight opponent as the Pride edged Coast Guard, 11-7, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tilt on Wednesday evening on Stagg Field.
Springfield, which improved to 9-1 overall and to 5-0 in NEWMAC play, is off to its best ten game stretch to begin a season in Division III program history, while Coast Guard fell to 4-5, 2-3.
Springfield came into tonight's match ranked fifth in Division III in scoring defense at 5.22 goals per game and seventh in the country in fewest goals allowed (47). The visiting Bears were able to put seven goals into the net against the Pride tonight the most Springfield has allowed since March 5 against Trinity. It's only the fourth time in ten games that the Pride have allowed seven or more goals in a contest.
Offensively,
Izzy Lalancette (Feeding Hills, Mass.) scored five of Springfield's 11 goals on the night in addition to her three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Lily Johnson (Oceanside, N.Y.) added a pair of goals and two draw controls.
Hannah Hibbert (Center Harbor, N.H.) led the Pride with five draw controls, while four different student-athletes had three ground balls and four different student-athletes had two caused turnovers. In net,
Kate Laico (East Meadow, N.Y.) registered ten stops for Springfield to push her record in the cage to 9-1.
Lalancette scored with an unassisted strike 4:53 into the contest giving Springfield an early edge before back-to-back goals from Isabella Judge and Caitlyn Coates secured Coast Guard its first and only lead of the game midway through the opening period. A strike by Johnson evened the score at two after the first, but also ignited a string of six consecutive goals scored by Springfield to push its lead to an eventual 7-2 early in the third.
Over the stretch, Johnson and Lalancette bother scored twice, while
Samantha Andresen (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) notched a goal on the man-advantage before
Lilly Vey (Foxboro, Mass.) capped the run with an unassisted strike of her own.
Up 10-3 early in the fourth following goals from
Claire Ognibene (New Canaan, Conn.),
Maddie Roy (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Lalancette, Coast Guard scored four straight times over a span of nearly seven minutes to pull within three at 10-7, but Lalancette tallied her fifth of the game with under 90 seconds to play to secure the 11-7 victory for Springfield.
Springfield is slated to host Wheaton College on Saturday at 1:00 pm for its senior day game.
