Men's Lacrosse Upended By No. 15 Middlebury

Middlebury, Vt. – March 25, 2025 – The Springfield College men's lacrosse team fell to 15th-ranked Middlebury College, 20-6, in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.

Middlebury pushed its record to 4-4, while Springfield, while was receiving votes in this week's United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III National Poll, dropped to 3-5. Springfield has faced six ranked teams in eight contests this spring.

Riley Burgmyer (Somers, Conn.)Jake Degnan (Mahopac, N.Y.) and Kevin Tierney (Glastonbury, Conn.)all recorded three points apiece for the Pride with Burgmyer and Degnan leading the way with a pair of goals. Vincent Scialdone (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) went 11-for-19 at the face-off X and scooped up six ground balls, while Angus Oliveira (Little Compton, R.I.) registered four caused turnovers.

Middlebury held statistical edges in shots (50-25), ground balls (34-30) and face-offs (16-14), while neither team failed a clear over the 60 minute contest. The host Panthers went 18-for-18 on the clear, while Springfield went 15-for-15 in transition.

Middlebury scored the first four goals of the game before Tierney finished a pass from Rory Scanlon (Maple Grove, Minn.) to put Springfield on the board midway through the first. The Panthers ultimately held an 11-2 lead at halftime with the Pride's other goal coming on an unassisted strike from Degnan.

Middlebury went on to outscore Springfield 9-4 in the second half en route to the 20-6 win. Degnan and Burgmyer connected for Springfield's lone goal of the third at the 10:57 mark before a trio of goals in the fourth from Scanlon, Burgmyer and Degnan capped the scoring for Springfield.

In net, Springfield keeper Kaden Quirk (Nahant, Mass.) made 13 saves.

Springfield will travel to MIT for a NEWMAC clash on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
