Springfield, Mass. – March 4, 2025 – The Springfield College baseball team fell to Amherst College, 9-2, in a non-conference contest on Tuesday afternoon at Archie Allen Field. The contest was called with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning due to darkness.
Amherst picked up its first win of the season and is now 1-1, while Springfield fell to 0-3.
Nate Garafalo (Kinderhook, N.Y.) picked up both RBI for Springfield as he launched his first home run of the year before grounding out for the Pride's second run of the afternoon.
Cole Zalegowski (North Haven, Conn.) notched two hits for the Pride as well.
AJ Zaccareo and Ryan McIntyre both went 3-for-5 at the plate for Amherst with Zaccareo leading the way with a pair of RBI. Walker Dellinger earned the win out of the pen for the Mammoths going two frames and striking out three midway through today's contest.
Amherst put two runs together in the top of the third on a wild pitch and RBI double by Jack Sampedro and never looked back. Springfield got one back on a round tripper from Garafalo, but the Mammoths registered two runs in the fourth, two in the fifth, one in the sixth and two in the ninth to account for the 9-2 final.
An RBI double to left from Zaccareo and a Leo Foust RBI triple to left made it a 4-1 game in the third before an inside the park home run by Jack McDermott ultimately put the game out of reach in the sixth.
Springfield will be back in action on Sunday with a doubleheader against MCLA beginning at noon.
