Springfield, Mass. – March 5, 2025 – No. 15 ranked Trinity College outscored the Springfield College women's lacrosse team, 8-1, in the second half to pull away with a 13-5 win in non-conference action on Wednesday night at Stagg Field.
Trinity improved to 2-0, while Springfield suffered its first loss of the season and is now 3-1.
Izzy Lalancette (Feeding Hills, Mass.) led Springfield with two goals and an assist for three points, while with two goals tonight
Samantha Andresen (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) registered her 100th career goal for the Pride. Erica Kierstead guided Trinity with four goals – all of which came in the second half, while Grace Denious and Alex Lesko both potted hat tricks for the visitors.
Rebecca Strouch led all student-athletes with five draw controls for the Bantams, while Emily Ambrozy caused four turnovers and scooped up five ground balls. Trinity led in every statistical category tonight including shots (28-14), ground balls (26-10) and draw controls (12-10).
Springfield went 16-for-23 on the clear, while Trinity went 16-for-20 in transition including a perfect 6-for-6 in the third period. The Bantams also went 2-for-2 on free position shots, while Springfield went just 1-for-3 on the night.
Trinity opened the scoring just 1:19 into the game as Denious scored a man—down before Springfield took a 2-1 edge four minutes later with strikes from Lalancette and Andresen. Andresen's go ahead goal marked the 100th of her career. The teams traded goals, but a Kaeley Zito strike on the man-advantage put Trinity ahead 5-4 at the break.
Kierstead and Lalancette traded goals to open the third before Trinity scored the final seven goals of the game to account for the 13-5 final. The Bantams outscored the Pride, 5-1, in the third and 3-0 in the fourth.
In the all-time series, Trinity is 18-0 against Springfield.
In goal,
Kate Laico (East Meadow, N.Y.) made eight saves for Springfield, while Ali Macdougall stopped four shots for Trinity.
Springfield will have ten days off before opening New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday, March 15 at home against Emerson College at 12:00 pm.
