Women's Tennis Drops 7-0 Decision at No. 16 MIT

Cambridge, Mass. – April 15, 2025 – The Springfield College women's tennis team was defeated by No. 16 nationally-ranked MIT, 7-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Tuesday afternoon on the road.

MIT improved to 11-2 overall and to 6-0 in NEWMAC play, while Springfield fell to 8-4, 3-2.

MIT won all three doubles matches. At the top of the lineup, Ramida Manataweewat (Bangkok, Thailand) and Kapom Vettayawaikoon (Phuket, Thailand) fell to Jay Lu and Chloe Zeng, 6-1. Zeng and Lu are ranked as the third best doubles team in the region and best among the NEWMAC.

In singles play, Manataweewat played a tight first set forcing a tiebreaker against Lu, but fell 7-6, 6-1, while Vettayawaikoon dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Zeng. At No. 5 and No. 6, Natalia Peyon (Hong Kong) and Ava Shea (Belchertown, Mass.) fought hard against the opposition but both fell by 6-3, 6-1 duplicate scores.

Springfield will travel to Brandeis University for a non-conference match on Thursday at 4:00 pm.
