Springfield, Mass. – April 16, 2025 – In its final regular season non-conference game of the season, No. 7 ranked Wesleyan University defeated the Springfield College men's lacrosse team, 17-5 on Wednesday evening on Stagg Field.
Wesleyan improved to 9-3, while Springfield dropped to 7-6.
Ryan Berkel (Sudbury, Mass.) led Springfield with two goals on the night, while
Brady Soldo (Shrewsbury, Mass.),
Riley Burgmyer (Somers, Conn.) and
Jake Degnan (Mahopac, N.Y.) all chipped in with tallies for the Pride. Gavin Lechner guided Wesleyan with four goals.
As a team, Wesleyan held the advantage in shots (39-22), ground balls (33-25) and face-offs (14-12). The visitors also went 25-for-26 on the clear, while Springfield went 17-for-20 in transition. In net,
Kaden Quirk (Nahant, Mass.) made 11 stops for Springfield.
Wesleyan raced out to a 4-1 lead over the opening nine minutes of play before back-to-back goals from Soldo off a feed from
Kevin Tierney (Glastonbury, Conn.) and a strike on the man-advantage by Berkel cut the deficit to just one at the end of the first.
Thomas Girimonti scored for Wesleyan to open things in the second, but the teams traded strikes leading up to halftime as Degnan and Burgmyer both finished shots from Tierney to have it be just a one goal lead for Wesleyan at the break.
Will Miller scored three times over the first seven minutes of the third and Wesleyan outscored Springfield 11-0 in the second half en route to the 17-5 final.
Springfield will travel to Salve Regina for a NEWMAC match on Saturday at noon.
