Anderson Breaks Hurdles Record as Men's Track and Field Takes Third at NEWMAC Championships

South Hadley, Mass. – April 26, 2025 – Highlighted by a record breaking performance from Mike Anderson (Cromwell, Conn.), the Springfield College men's track and field team finished third overall at the 2025 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships over the weekend.

WPI won the meet with 241 points and was followed by MIT (196), Springfield (125), Coast Guard (87), Babson (79) and Wheaton (78).

Anderson broke his own school record in the 110-meter hurdles on Friday afternoon in the prelims of the event clocking a time of 14.30-seconds before finishing with a silver medal and All-Conference honors with a 14.39 this afternoon.

Springfield's 4x400-meter relay of Tyler Fabbri (Andover, Mass.)Michael Scott (Shoreview, Minn.)Sam Polley (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Colin Hansen (Ipswich, Mass.) claimed gold running a time of 3:18.74. The sprinters four of Springfield's seven medals at the meet as in addition to the 4x400 and Anderson in the 110-meter hurdles, Hansen took silver and All-Conference honors in the 400-meter dash in 49.30 as well as bronze in the 200-meter dash in 21.78, while Martin Nyagilo (Randolph, Mass.) took silver and All-Conference honors in the shot put with a mark of 14.25-meters, Fabbri took bronze in the 400-meter dash in 50.21, Scott took bronze in the 100-meter dash in 10.70.

Scott went on to also finish fourth in the 200-meter dash in 21.90, while Polley finished fifth in the 400-meter dash in 50.44. Christopher Vayda (Southampton, Mass.) recorded a fourth place finish in the 10,000-meter run in 32:32.66 and a tenth place finish in the 5,000-meter run in 15:37.61, while Adam Mula (West Townsend, Mass.) led Springfield in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:07.04 and Jeremiah Singer (Barnstable, Mass.) paced the Pride in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:01.26.

The 4x100-meter relay of Anthony Penta (Southington, Conn.)Ari Papadimitriou (Shelton, Conn.)Giovanni Henrickson (Chelsea, Mass.) and Chris Eubanks (Skillman, N.J.) rounded out the highlights on the track for the Pride as the quartet took sixth overall with a time of 42.90.

In the field events, Springfield saw four different student-athletes record fourth place finishes in their respective events. Connor Daley (West Springfield, Mass.) notched a mark of 41.42-meters in the discus, Peyton Blanchard (Kennebunk, Maine) posted a mark of 44.78-meters in the hammer, Cristian Roman-Koenig (Wallingford, Conn.) posted a mark of 54.38-meters in the javelin and Daniel McGlashan (Haverhill, Mass.) leapt 13.59-meters in the triple jump.

Patrick Dahm (Feeding Hills, Mass.) paced the Pride in the long jump with a leap of 6.53-meters, while Max Torres (Springfield, Mass.) cleared 1.85-meters in the high jump.

In the decathlon, Justin Manning (Brooklyn, N.Y.) earned bronze with a total score of 4,551 points as he individually won the long jump and the 400-meter dash in the ten event circuit.

Those who have qualified will travel to the Coast Guard Academy for the New England Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships next weekend.
