Softball Turns Away Clark In Both Ends of NEWMAC Doubleheader

Springfield, Mass. – April 27, 2025 – The Springfield College softball team picked up a pair of shutout victories over New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) rival Clark University on Sunday afternoon at Potter Field. Springfield won the opener 8-0 in six innings and the nightcap 4-0.

Springfield's record improved to 24-10 overall and to 11-5 in NEWMAC play, while Clark fell to 14-20, 4-12.

Amelia DeRosa (Miller Place, N.Y.) went 6-for-8 at the plate with three doubles, three runs and an RBI, Callie Gendron (Berlin, Conn.) registered three hits and four RBI, while Marissa Seyfert (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and Katie Manzone (Wareham, Mass.) both tallied three hits and combined for three runs and two RBI. Springfield's pitching staff of DeRosa, Lily McCauliffe (Greenwich, Conn.) and Abby Robinson (East Lyme, Conn.) pitched 13 innings, scattered just six hits and notched nine punchouts.

Game One: Springfield 8, Clark 0

With runners on the corners in the first, Gendron put Springfield ahead 1-0 with an RBI single to left before Manzone roped a two-run double to the gap scoring Lucy Puskas (Roxbury, Conn.) and Carissa Pecchia (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) making it 3-0.

Seyfert began the second with a single to center before a double from DeRosa plated Seyfert all the way from first. DeRosa came around to score Springfield's fifth run on an RBI double from Gendron. Michaela Ponticello (Gloversville, N.Y.) then began the third with a triple to left before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Kate Katsetos (Brewster, N.Y.) upping Springfield's advantage to 6-0.

In the circle, DeRosa allowed just four runners to reach base which included a single from Rebecca Mauro in the sixth, but she was quickly erased by Gendron trying to steal second. DeRosa then began the bottom of the frame with an infield single before her and Brynlee Eckles (Ellington, Conn.) crossed the plate on a double by Gendron ending the game via run rule.

Game Two: Springfield 4, Clark 0

Robinson continued her stellar week in the circle for the Pride as she allowed just two hits and struck out three in a seven inning complete game effort.

The game was scoreless until the fourth when Rachel Powers (Tigard, Ore.) plated Manzone on a sacrifice fly. Springfield then put the game out of reach with three additional runs in the sixth as Ponticello singles and scored on a double by Katsetos before Pecchia drove in both Seyfert and Katsetos to account for the 4-0 final.

Despite allowing a leadoff double to Mauro in the seventh, Robinson returned to the circle and set the Cougars down to finish the game off.

Springfield will welcome Manhattanville College to Alden Street for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday beginning at 3:00 pm.
