No. 25/RV Football Picks Up 38-6 Win Over Husson in Home Opener

Springfield, Mass. - September 13, 2025 - The Springfield College football team picked up its first win of the season this afternoon as the Pride downed Husson University, 38-6, on Stagg Field.

Both teams evened their records at 1-1 through two weeks this fall. Springfield entered today's contest ranked 25th nationally in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III national poll and was receiving votes in the D3football.com national poll.

The Pride have now won four straight contests against the Eagles dating back to the 2022 campaign and have allowed seven or less points in three of the four meetings. Over the four game stretch, Springfield has outscored Husson by a 208-40 margin.

After Springfield forced a three and out on Husson's first drive of the game, the Pride embarked on an eight play, 79-yard drive that was capped on a forward diving 33-yard touchdown reception by Austin Studley (Meriden, Conn.) for the early 7-0 lead. This marked the first career touchdown pass for TJ Welch (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and the first career touchdown reception for Studley. Then with 2:13 remaining in the first and on first and ten on its own 30-yard line, Welch broke through the Husson defense and rushed 70-yards to the house for a 14-0 advantage.

Springfield scored a touchdown in the second capping a five play, 61-yard drive with a 19-yard scoring rush by Stanford Davis (Montague, N.J.) before Welch accounted for his third touchdown of the afternoon - this time rushing just three yards into the endzone to make the score 28-0. It took Husson until there was just six minutes remaining in the game to score its lone touchdown, but a 27-yard field goal by Ian Wernik (Plymouth, Mass.) and six yard touchdown rush by Andrew Soltys (Ware, Mass.) accounted for the 38-6 final.

Welch ended the game with 113 rushing yards, 33 passing yards and three total touchdowns, while Davis led the Pride with 121 yards on the ground - averaging 7.1 yards per carry. As a team, Springfield totaled 435 yards on the ground compared to just 19 for the Eagles and posted 468 yards of total offense. Wernik ended his day 5-for-5 on extra points and recorded his first field goal of the season - with a length of 27-yards.

Springfield will travel to the Midwest for a battle of ranked teams as the Pride will take on No. 11/11 UW-Platteville in Wisconsin next Saturday at 1:00 pm EST/12:00 pm CST.
