Women's Soccer Drops 6-0 Decision at No. 14 Wesleyan

Middletown, Conn. – September 16, 2025 — The Springfield College women's soccer team dropped a 6-0 decision to No. 14 ranked Wesleyan University on Tuesday evening at Smith Field in non-conference play. With the setback, the Pride fall to 0-4-0 on the year, while the Cardinals remain unbeaten at 4-0-1.

Wesleyan entered tonight's match ranked 14th nationally in the United Soccer Coaches Division III poll and third in the most recent Region I ranking.

Wesleyan jumped ahead early and never looked back, finding the back of the net three times in the opening half. Maria Utz opened the scoring in the 15th minute off a feed from Beatrix Delaney, before Riley Buehler connected with Utz and doubled the lead six minutes later. The Cardinals extended their advantage to 3-0 in the 33rd minute when Lola Tirabassi connected on a strike assisted by Kaitlyn Connors to take that lead into the break.

The Cardinals carried their momentum into the second half, adding three additional goals over the final 45 minutes of play. Buehler tallied her second goal of the contest in the 71st minute before Brooke Goodwin capitalized on a setup from Meghan Noe and Emma Gower notched her first of the season to account for the 6-0 final.

Despite the final scoreline, Springfield's goalkeepers turned in strong efforts under heavy pressure. Mairead Marsden (Amsterdam, N.Y.d) made three saves in the opening half, while Mallory Forgatch (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) came on in relief and added four stops in the final 45 minutes. Overall, the Cardinals outshot the Pride 28-3 and held an 13-2 edge in shots on goal.

Springfield's best opportunities came in the second half, as both Kaitlyn Suller (Oviedo, Fla.) and Emilee Surber (Deep River, Conn.) put attempts on target, but were denied by Wesleyan's goalkeeping tandem of Marley Hansard and Maggie di Rienzo.

Springfield has a quick turnaround with a non-conference match at home against Framingham State University tomorrow evening at 7:00 pm on Brock-Affleck Field.
