Women's Soccer Edged By Babson, 1-0, in NEWMAC Opener

Springfield, Mass. - September 20, 2025 - A goal in the 53rd minute by the visiting Beavers was the difference in today's game as Babson College defeated the Springfield College women's soccer team, 1-0, in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener for both squads this afternoon on Brock-Affleck Field.

Babson improved to 2-0-3, 1-0-0 NEWMAC, while Springfield fell to 1-5-0, 0-1-0 NEWMAC. The Beavers entered today's match receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Division III National Poll and as the third ranked team in Region II.

Babson held a 23-7 advantage in shots and held Springfield without a shot for the final 45 minutes of play. Both teams had three corner kicks in the game.

After a scoreless first half, Babson broke the 0-0 score off a set piece play. Meredith Greeley launched the corner kick into the box to the foot of Josie Lee, who played a one touch pass to Izzy Lee accounting for the difference in the game.

Babson's defense locked Springfield down in the second half as the Beavers took the 1-0 final.

Mallory Forgatch (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) made nine saves for Springfield in the setback, while Cleo Grignard was credited with the win playing the entirety of the second half.

Springfield will host nationally-ranked Amherst College in non-conference action on Tuesday at 7:00 pm.
