Springfield, Mass. - September 27, 2025 - A balanced attack from the Springfield College women's volleyball team provided the Pride a three-set win over WPI on Saturday afternoon in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action in Blake Arena.
Springfield, now winners of nine straight improved to 12-2 overall and to 2-0 in NEWMAC play, while WPI fell to 7-6, 0-2. The Pride defeated the Engineers by scores of 25-14, 25-20, 25-15 this afternoon.
Springfield hit a season-best .365 today against WPI and was paced by nine kills from
Emily Keaveney (Massapequa Park, N.Y.),
Alexa Bonato (Orange, Conn.),
Ahunna James (Plainville, Mass.) and
Aubrey Hughes (Liberty Hill, Texas).
Jodi Saelua (Mililani, Hawaii) hit .389 and added eight kills as well as four blocks today. As a team, the Pride produced 12 aces - four of which came from
Tori Colosimo (Fairport, N.Y.).
Springfield raced out to a 6-1 lead in the first following a pair of kills from James, kills from Bonato and Saelua, a block from Hughes and James and an ace from Keaveney as the Pride eventually ballooned the lead to eight at 11-3. Up 15-8, a swing by Keaveney sparked a run of five straight points before the two sides traded points. Then up by ten, kills from Bonato and Saelua terminated the set, 25-14.
In the second, WPI held an 8-4 edge before back-to-back errors by the visitors ignited a 7-1 spark for Springfield - a run that was capped by back-to-back aces from Colosimo. Springfield led 23-20 when Bonato produced back-to-back kills to end the second, 25-20.
Springfield hit a match-best .500 in the third on 18 kills (18-1-34) and led 20-11 following kills from both Saelua and Keaveney. Another swing by Keaveney sparked a run of four straight points that also saw kills from James and Hughes as well as an ace by Colosimo to set up match point. One final swing through the middle by Hughes secured the set, 25-15 and the sweep for Springfield today.
Springfield will travel to Smith College on Tuesday night for a NEWMAC battle at 7:00 pm.
