Haverford, Pa. – September 6, 2025 – The Springfield College women's volleyball team capped its weekend at the Ford Invitational by splitting a pair of matches with Scranton and Lynchburg. The Royals defeated the Pride in three sets by scores of 25-18, 25-21, 25-18 before Springfield swept the Hornets by scores of 25-20, 26-24, 25-19.
For her efforts over the weekend,
Olivia Nealy (Athens, Ga.) was named to the All-Tournament Team. After the second weekend of action this season, Springfield's record sits at 4-2.
In 11 sets for the Pride this weekend, Nealy recorded 40 digs and seven assists as Springfield's libero.
Scranton 3, Springfield 0
After producing 15 kills last night against Haverford,
Emily Keaveney (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) added 11 kills to her total in today's first match against Scranton.
Aubrey Hughes (Liberty Hill, Texas) recorded five kills, an ace and one dig, while
Tori Colosimo (Fairport, N.Y.) notched two kills, 25 assists, one ace and two digs. Nealy registered nine digs of her own against the Royals, while
Ahunna James (Plainville, Mass.) recorded a team-high ten digs in addition to her four kills.
A service error gave Springfield a 12-11 lead midway through the first before Scranton embarked on a 9-1 run to go ahead 20-13 as a pair of swings by Erin Gretzky highlighted the spurt. The Pride were able to climb withing four following a kill from Colosimo, but Deanna Whepley terminated the set for Scranton, 25-18.
Springfield trailed 7-3 early in the second before the Pride went ahead 9-7 following six straight points – four of which came off of swings by Keaveney. After the teams traded points most of the stanza Keaveney tied the score at 20 before Scranton scored five of the final six points on a trio of kills and two Pride errors, 25-21.
The third was even at 13 before a kill from Cammi Quirk gave Scranton a lead it wouldn't relinquish. The Royals ripped off six straight points to go ahead 23-15 following three Springfield errors, two blocks and a kill before two final errors by the Pride gave Scranton the set 25-18 and the match, 3-0.
Springfield 3, Lynchburg 0
Jodi Saelua (Mililani, Hawaii) and
Alexa Bonato (Orange, Conn.) powered Springfield's offense in the nightcap with ten kills apiece. Saelua hit a team-best .471 (10-2-17) and registered seven blocks at the net.
After both teams traded the first ten points of the opening set, Springfield went on a 7-1 run highlighted by two kills from Saelua and one from
Aurissa Boardman (Brooklyn, Conn.) to go ahead 12-6. Lynchburg was able to climb within two points at 22-20, but Bonato, Keaveney and Saelua teamed up to end the first, 25-20.
In the second, Springfield was able to build a five point cushion midway through as Bonato made it 17-12. Springfield had set point at 24-21 following a swing through the middle by Hughes, but Lynchburg answered with three straight points of its own. Springfield once again had set point following a Hornets error at 25-24 before a final swing by Bonato terminated the set for the Pride, 26-24.
Lynchburg raced out to a 7-2 lead in the third, but a 9-1 run for Springfield put the Pride ahead 11-8 after a pair of aces by Colosimo. The teams traded points until it was 21-19. With Keaveney at the service line, she recorded back-to-back aces before an error by Lynchburg secured the sweep for Springfield, 25-19.
Springfield will travel to Trinity (Conn.) for a tri-match with the Bantams and UMass Boston next Saturday beginning at 12:00 pm.
