New York, NY – January 23, 2026 – The top-ranked Springfield College men's volleyball team hit a blistering .571 and swept Baruch College in the program's 2026 Division III opener on Friday evening on the road.
Springfield improved to 1-1, while Baruch dropped to 0-2. Springfield won tonight by scores of 25-11, 25-21, 25-13 and entered the match slotted first in both the AVCA Division III National Poll and the FrogJump Men's Volleyball rankings.
Springfield's .571 hitting percentage tonight was the best in a match since the Pride defeated Regis College on March 22 of 2022. This evening, Springfield produced 32 kills on 49 swings and made just four hitting errors.
AJ Seveland (Jenkintown, Pa.) led Springfield's offensive attack as he registered ten kills on 13 swings (.692) to go along with a trio of aces, while
Evan Costley (Simi Valley, Calif.) registered seven kills and two blocks,
Brennan Cutter (Trumbull, Conn.) hit a perfect 6-for-6 in addition to a team-best four aces and
Nathan Goh (Germantown, Md.) added four kills for the Pride.
Dylan Mulvaney (Reston, Va.) dished out 23 assists, totaled four blocks and posted four digs.
Springfield sprinted out to an 8-1 lead in the first as Cutter began the match with a kill off the hands of Mulvaney before he notched back-to-back aces for the early advantage. After the teams traded points, Cutter and Goh pushed the Pride lead to seven at 14-7 midway through the stanza. A swing through the middle by
Will Kirchhoff (Macedon, N.Y.) ignited a set-ending run as Springfield notched eight of the final nine points in the stanza to win it 25-11. Goh, Costley, Seveland and Kirchoff all produced kills for the Pride over the stretch.
The Pride notched a match-high 13 kills in the middle set and hit at a .611 clip. In a closely contested stanza that saw the teams trade point for the bulk of it, a swing by Seveland, an ace from Costley and an error by the hosts made it 21-16 in favor of Springfield. Baruch never got closer than four and one two kills from Cutter secured the set, 25-21.
Springfield hit .909 in the third with ten kills on 11 swings en route to the sweep. The Pride led 16-3 following a solo block in the middle by
Billy Cavanagh (Yardley, Pa.) before a trio of kills from Seveland and an error by Baruch made it 20-9.
Fabian Matos (Orlando, Fla.) and
Joey Preische (Penfield, N.Y.) notched the final two points for the Pride completing the sweep this evening.
Springfield will travel to St. Joseph's (Long Island) tomorrow to complete the road trip. First serve is set for 12:00 pm.
