Patchogue, N.Y. – January 24, 2026 – No. 1 Springfield College wrapped up its trip to New York with a sweep of St. Joseph's Long Island in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.
Springfield, ranked first in both the AVCA Division III poll and the FrogJump Men's Volleyball rankings, improved to 2-1, while St. Joseph's fell to 0-3. The Pride won the match by set scores of 25-13, 25-15, 25-17.
Evan Costley (Simi Valley, Calif.) and
Nathan Goh (Germantown, Md.) led the offensive charge for the Pride as both produced nine kills apiece. Goh hit .643 with 14 errorless swings.
Carter Durivage (East Greenbush, N.Y.) and
Joey Preische (Penfield, N.Y.) both added seven kills, while
Brennan Cutter (Trumbull, Conn.) and
AJ Seveland (Jenkintown, Pa.) tallied five kills apiece. Defensively,
Ricardo Ortiz (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) posted eight digs, while
Will Kirchhoff (Macedon, N.Y.) totaled four blocks.
Dylan Mulvaney (Reston, Va.) dished out 35 assists and added seven digs and two blocks to his afternoon.
As a team, Springfield hit .400 overall for the match and held statistical advantages in kills (48-20), assists (47-20), aces (4-0), blocks (7-4) and digs (45-33).
Springfield scored 12 of the first 15 points and hit a match-high .500 with 16 kills over the first set. Goh powered the opening spurt with a pair of kills and Seveland registered back-to-back aces for the early lead. Seveland and Goh teamed up to make it 16-5 before back-to-back swings by Durivage made it 18-6. Preische recorded three kills down the stretch including the final point of the stretch off the hands of Mulvaney to take it 25-13.
In a similar style to the first, Springfield notched eight of the first 11 points of the second as kills by Kirchhoff and Seveland capped the run for the Pride. Up 12-9, Cutter and Durivage put the set out of reach as Cutter swung for a kill off a feed from
Dyllan Nguyen (Fountain Valley, Calif.) and notched a solo block, while a two straight swings by Durivage made it 16-9. Costley then notched three straight kills for the visitors before Seveland and Cutter teamed up for a block at the net. It was yet again Preische who sealed the second with a swing off a short pass from Costley to take it 25-15.
Costley capped a third set run for the Pride with back-to-back kills putting Springfield ahead 13-8. Two kills from Goh ignited a spurt of five straight points late in the stanza to making it 21-11 before a kill and an ace by Nguyen finalized the sweep for the Pride this afternoon.
Springfield will return home for its first match in Blake Arena on Tuesday against Lasell University at 7:00 pm.
