Wellesley, Mass. – October 10, 2026 – The Springfield College field hockey team fell to Wellesley, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon.
The Pride drop to 6-6 overall and 1-4 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play while the Blue improve to 3-9 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
Wellesley struck first, finding the back of the cage just over five minutes into the first quarter following a flurry of saves from
Sam Orcutt (Forestdale, Mass.) off of a penalty corner. The Springfield defense held the Blue off the board for the remainder of the game, with Orcutt ultimately picking up five saves and
Emma Kibbe (Lunenburg, Mass.) recording her second defensive save of the season.
Springfield's offense was held quiet for most of the game but generated some momentum late, including two shots on goal in the final three minutes. However, Wellesley's defense held strong to secure the 1-0 victory.
The Blue outshot the Pride 11-5 on the day, also holding a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal and a 6-4 advantage in penalty corners.
Springfield returns home for their final non-conference game against Eastern Connecticut State on Wednesday, October 14.
