Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Late Goal Sends WPI Past Men's Soccer

Springfield, Mass. — October 17, 2026 – The Springfield College men's soccer team fell to WPI in a Saturday evening New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup on Brock-Affleck Field, 2-1.

With the win, the Engineers improve to 2-5-5 overall and 2-0-2 in the conference while the Pride drop to 5-7-1, 2-3-0.

WPI scored quickly, just eight minutes into the match when Danyil Kovryzhenko passed the ball off to Anir AitDowd at the front of the net and he was able to score for the early lead. It was a back-and forth rest of the half, as both teams had multiple chances. The Engineers dominated in the box with 14 first half shots but could not get another one to go as they entered the halftime break leading by one.

In the 47th minute, Cole Sampson (Hingham, Mass.) and Evan Memoli (Barrington, RI) connected with Kam Brown (Freehold, N.J.) who scored to even it up. Both teams stayed at it, putting pressure on one another as regulation time was getting closer to expire. With less than six minutes to play, Nikolas Previte sent a shot to the top right corner to give the Engineers the lead and the eventual 2-1 win.

WPI outshot Springfield 22-15 and held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks. In goal, Tommy Fenton (East Hampton, Conn.) had five saves.

The Pride will host Vassar on Tuesday for a 7:00 pm matchup on Brock-Affleck Field.
