Cambridge, Mass. – October 3, 2026 – The Springfield field hockey team fell to MIT, 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Jack Barry Field.
The Pride fall to 6-4 on the season, and 1-2 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play, while the Engineers improve to 5-5 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
Sam Orcutt (Forestdale, Mass.) continued her strong season with a seven-save performance, combining with Springfield's defense to hold MIT to one goal despite the Engineers recording 20 shots.
Emma Kibbe (Lunenburg, Mass.) also contributed a defensive save, marking Springfield's first defensive save of the season.
After a scoreless first quarter, MIT broke through just before halftime, taking a 1-0 lead with less than two minutes remaining in the second quarter. The Engineers continued to pressure Springfield's defense throughout the second half but were unable to add to their lead. The Pride's offense was held to just one shot on the afternoon.
Springfield continues NEWMAC play at home against Smith on Tuesday, October 6th.
