Springfield, Mass. — October 5, 2026 — Springfield College football senior linebacker Mike Mendicino (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) has earned the Division II/III New England Football Writers Association Gold Helmet Award presented by the Jack Grinold/Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation after an incredible preformance this past weekend.

Mendicino had two interception returns for touchdowns in the Pride's 36-23 win over Salve Regina. Mendicino's first pick six resulted in a 100-yard return and gave Springfield a 17-10 third quarter lead. His second broke a 17-17 tie early in the fourth quarter and gave Springfield a lead it would not relinquish. Additionally, Mendicino tallied five solo and two assisted tackles.

Springfield will head into its bye week and return to action on Saturday, October 17 against WPI at 12:00 pm on Stagg Field.
