Men's Basketball Drops Game to Salve Regina

Newport, R.I. - February 11, 2026 - The Springfield College men's basketball team lost to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opponent Salve Regina in a Wednesday night matchup, 67-57.

The Seahawks improve to 16-6 overall and 9-4 in the NEWMAC while the Pride drop to 8-15, 6-8.

Josiah Evely (Toronto, Ontario) led Springfield with a double-double after registering 14 points, 10 rebounds while also having three steals. Hunter Matteson (Dartmouth, Mass.) and Robinson Rodriguez (Nashua, NH) both had ten points each while Matteson had nine rebounds. 

The Pride exchanged baskets through the first ten minutes of the first half to lead 13-11 as Zachary Campbell (Philadelphia, Pa.) powered Springfield with six and Pat Spenard had five for Salve Regina. It was the same story for the rest of the first half as both teams exchanged baskets as Salve Regina outscored the Pride 16-15 for the final ten minutes of the half to lead 28-27 going into the halftime break.  

The Seahawks went on a 6-0 run, leaving the Pride scoreless for close to four minutes at the start of the second half as Salve Regina took a 33-28 lead. Rodriguez hit a trey and Evely hit back-to-back baskets to bring Springfield right back. The teams then continued the same pattern from the first half, exchanging baskets with Springfield down four with 7:32 left to go, 49-45.

Both teams were scoreless for the next two minutes, before Salve Regina went on to outscore Springfield 18-12. The Seahawks shot 54.84-percent from the floor while the Pride shot 29.73-percent from the floor in the second half as Salve Regina took the win, 67-57.

The Seahawks were 27-for-63 (33.3-percent) from the floor throughout the whole game while the Pride were 22-for-66 (42.9-percent). Salve Regina held a 48-43 edge off the glass and scored 50 points in the paint. 

The Pride will host Clark on Wednesday in Blake Arena at 7:00 pm.
