Springfield, Mass. – February 11, 2026 – The No. 1 Springfield College men's volleyball team defeated 14th-ranked New Paltz in four sets by scores of 24-26, 25-20, 25-19, 25-21 on Wednesday night in Blake Arena.
Springfield, now winners of seven straight including five against ranked opponents, improved to 7-1, while New Paltz dropped to 7-4.
Springfield's balanced attack saw four student-athletes produce double-digit kills highlighted by a match-high 14 from
Sam Levinson (LaGrange, Ill.).
Carter Durivage (East Greenbush, N.Y.) added 13 kills and hit .500,
Nathan Goh (Germantown, Md.) notched 11 kills and a team-best eight digs and
Brennan Cutter (Trumbull, Conn.) hit a team-best .692 with ten kills on 13 swings in addition to three blocks on the night.
Dylan Mulvaney (Reston, Va.) dished out 43 assists, posted eight digs and tallied a solo block – the point that sealed the match for Springfield in the fourth.
As a team, Springfield registered a season-high 51 kills on just 99 total swings and hit .404 – the third match this season, and first at home, that the Pride have eclipsed the .400 mark in a match.
The opening set featured 17 ties and ten lead changes, but it was New Paltz which came out on top 26-24. The Hawks notched 15 kills and hit .297 in the first. In a back-and-forth set, neither team had more than a two point lead throughout and each time the visitors took a lead, Springfield's offense responded with kills as swings by Durivage, Levinson, Goh and Cutter held the Pride with New Paltz. Late in the stanza, Springfield had set point following a kill from Levinson and an ace by Mulvaney, but three consecutive kills by Nikko Tenedorio, Geoff Ndoria and Matt Teplansky gave the Hawks the first, 26-24.
Springfield took an early 4-2 edge in the second and never relinquished the lead en route to the 25-20 final. Kills by
Richard Eber Jr. (Hummelstown, Pa.) and Durivage made it 6-4 before an ace and a swing by Goh pushed Springfield ahead 10-7. The Pride then put together a 5-2 spurt midway through that featured two kills and an ace from Durivage and two swings by Goh making the score 16-12. Two points later, a New Paltz error and an ace ignited another spurt – this time 6-1 – that was capped on an ace by
Fabian Matos (Orlando, Fla.). New Paltz pushed back and got as close as four by a solo block by Levinson secured the second for the Pride, 25-20.
New Paltz held an early lead in the third and eventually took an 18-16 edge, but a block through the middle by Mulvaney and Cutter sparked a run of eight straight points for Springfield making it 24-18 and set point. The stretch featured a kill from Levinson, a solo block by Eber Jr., and an assisted block by Durivage and Eber Jr. A swing by Durivage gave Springfield set point before a service error gave the Pride the third, 25-19.
Springfield hit a match-high .517 in the fourth with 17 kills on 29 swings in the fourth to secure the match in Blake. As was the case earlier in the match, neither team was able to pull away with more than a three point edge as a swing by Durivage made it 16-13, a kill by Levinson made it 17-14 and a solo block by Cutter made it 22-19. New Paltz got a pair of points back by a kill and an ace by Cutter and a solo block by Mulvaney finished off the set, 25-21, and the match in four sets.
Over the course of the match, both sides produced 51 kills, but Springfield held the edge in aces (9-4), blocks (9-6), assists (46-45) and digs (34-32).
Springfield will return to action on Saturday with a home match against No. 11 Wentworth at 6:00 pm on Blake Arena.
