Springfield had a 21-17 lead in the first set following an ace by Durivage and a kill from Sam Levinson (LaGrange, Ill.), but four errors by the Pride resulted in a 7-1 run for NYU ultimately giving the hosts set point. A service error put Springfield back within one, but a swing that went long by Durivage gave the Violets the first, 25-23.

NYU held a 4-0 lead in the second before a quick spurt by Springfield that saw kills by Durivage, Goh, Seveland and Mulvaney, tied the score at six. Neither team was able to gain more than a two point edge, but trailing 18-16 a swing by Goh ignited a 5-1 run for the Pride that saw the visitors take a 21-19 lead. The run was capped on a block through the middle by Richard Eber Jr. (Hummelstown, Pa.) and Goh. Five points later with NYU back ahead 23-22, a swing by Goh and a solo block by Mulvaney gave Springfield set point. The teams fended off set points until the score read 29-29. Back-to-back kills from Levinson and Mulvaney secured the second for the Pride, 31-29. As a team, Springfield hit .533 in the second and produced 19 kills on 30 total swings.

Both offenses erupted in the third as Springfield hit .545 (14-2-22) and NYU hit .462 (15-3-26), but it was the Violets who came out in front with a 25-22 set three win. Springfield did lead 8-2 early in the stanza, but NYU slowly chipped away at the deficit and ultimately tied the score at 20 after a pair of kills from Evans. The Violets then ripped off four straight points on a kill and ace by Clifford, a Springfield error and a block by Evans and Ethan Du for set point. Springfield got two points back including an ace by Dyllan Nguyen (Fountain Valley, Calif.), but Jerry Feng terminated the set with a swing off a pass from Devyn Nguyen.

Springfield went on a brief 4-1 run to take 9-7 edge before the teams traded points until late in the set. Clifford gave NYU match point at 14-13.
