Bennington, Vt. – February 28, 2026 – Despite a win by first-year
Peyton Gaudreau (Branford, Conn.) at No. 1 singles, the Springfield College women's tennis team fell to 17th-ranked Williams College in the spring opener on Saturday afternoon at the Bennington Tennis Center.
Williams eased by the Pride in doubles play with No. 1 and No. 2 being decided by 6-2 differentials and the No. 3 duo of
Alysa Elliott (Gros-Islet, Saint Lucia) and
Kelly McGoldrick (Monroe, N.Y.) falling by a 6-1 final to Julia Zhang and Ellie Stark.
Gaudreau defeated Mia Roets at No. 1 singles in straight sets, 6-1, 7-6 for Springfield's lone point.
Kapom Vettayawaikoon (Phuket, Thailand) put up a fight at No. 2, but fell in three sets, 2-6, 7-5, 2-6. The remainder of the four singles matches were played in straight sets with Williams dropping a total of just three games and picking up 6-0, 6-0 shutout wins at No. 4 and No. 6.
Springfield will head to Florida in the middle of March for its next set of contests beginning on the 16th against Bethel (Minnesota) in Orlando.
