After Wheaton pulled within three at 10-7, Springfield scored the final 12 points of the opening quarter for a 22-7 lead after ten minutes of play. Four different student-athletes scored for the Pride over the stretch to end the first highlighted by a trey from Lucas, a layup and jumper from Finney and an and-one play from Padula.

The Pride continued the stretch to open the second with the first eight points of the second extending the scoring run to 20-0 – which ultimately lasted just over six minutes of game time. Mamone knocked down back-to-back shots for the Pride to open the scoring in the second before Boles and Finney buried shots of their own to go ahead 30-7. Springfield went on and took a 40-18 lead at the break. Springfield shot at a 43.2-percent clip from the floor in the first half alone and held Wheaton to just eight made baskets over the same stretch.
