Men's Lacrosse Opens NEWMAC Play With 16-7 Home Win Over Clark

Springfield, Mass. - March 14, 2026 - The Springfield College men's lacrosse team opened New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play with a 16-7 win over Clark University on Saturday afternoon on Stagg Field.

Springfield improves to 4-3 overall and to 1-0 in NEWMAC play, while Clark drops to 0-6, 0-1.

Ryan Berkel (Sudbury, Mass.) led the Pride with three goals and five assists for five points to go along with a trio of ground balls, while Tate Anderson (Riverside, Conn.)Jake Degnan (Mahopac, N.Y.) and Michael Kuziak (Simsbury, Conn.) all added three goals apiece. Dominic Savastano (South Salem, N.Y.) led Springfield with seven ground balls and won nine face offs, while Reece Whitney (Chester, Conn.) and Angus Oliveira (Little Compton, R.I.) both recorded five caused turnovers.

As a team, Springfield was dominant holding the differential in shots (46-24) ground balls (41-31) and also went 30-for-32 on the clear. Springfield matched its season high with 18 combined caused turnovers this afternoon.

After picking up a ground ball less than two minutes into the first quarter, Charlie Vath (Southington, Conn.)found Degnan who scored the first goal of the game for the Pride. Clark equalized just 20 seconds later as Lucas Cuda found the back of the net. A goal from Sal Posillico (Farmingdale, N.Y.) sparked a run of four straight Springfield goals to finish up the first quarter, 5-1.

In the second quarter, Savastano won the face off allowing the Pride to control the ball as Anderson scored at 14:21 before the Cougars scored seven seconds later to make it 6-2. Stensrud scored a man up goal assisted by Brady Soldo (Shrewsbury, Mass.) before Clark equalized again. Similar to the first quarter, the Pride then dominated the rest of the way, scoring three more goals to lead 10-3 going into the halftime break. 

Springfield continued to roll through the third quarter, outscoring the Cougars 4-1 to make it 14-4. Clark added three goals as opposed to Springfield's one in the fourth, but a dominant first three quarters for Springfield allowed the Pride take the win, 16-7.

The Pride play host to Western New England on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
