Men's Lacrosse Tops Western New England, 14-4

Springfield, Mass. - March 18, 2026 - The Springfield College men's lacrosse team clipped Western New England in a Wednesday night matchup, 

With the win, Springfield improves to 5-3 overall while the Golden Bears drop to 2-5. 

Ryan Berkel (Sudbury, Mass.), Jake Degnan (Mahopac, N.Y.) and Matt Webb (Northport, N.Y.) each scored two apiece for the Pride. Berkel, Anders Norman (Truckee, Calif.), Angus Oliveira (Little Compton, R.I.) and Reece Whitney (Chester, Conn.) combined for 13 ground balls as Whitney caused three turnovers. In net, Joseph Grenier (Cheshire, Conn.) made 11 saves in the win for the Pride. 

Western New England saw its only lead of the game in the first quarter when Logan Proctor scored less than a minute into the game. Degnan equalized at 11:18 but the Golden Bears went up 2-0 less than two minutes later. Charlie Vath (Southington, Conn.), Michael Kuziak (Simsbury, Conn.) and Berkel would go on to score three more goals to take a 4-0 lead going into the second quarter. 

There were only three goals scored in the second, all coming from Springfield as the Pride held a 7-2 edge going into the halftime break. Rory Scanlon (Maple Grove, Minn.) tacked on a goal early before Springfield was held scoreless for almost nine minutes. Webb then netted one before Jack Shay (Madison, Conn.) found Degnan who put it away before the end of the quarter. 

The Pride went on to score seven goals in the third and fourth quarters to outscore the Golden Bears 7-2 over the final 30 minutes of play to take the game 14-4. 

Springfield held the edge in shots (36-33) while Western New England led on ground balls (40-28) as the Pride went 28-for-31 on the clear.

The Pride will head to No.6 Babson on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
